| “Stop the world I want to
get off...”
Thea and Faber’s marriage is on the rocks
and Thea has retreated to her garden in search
of peace and tranquillity. They invite an analyst,
Mangus, to help resolve their difficulties. Under
his watchful gaze the garden becomes a place of
exploration and discovery, of delights, insecurities
and revelations. Così fan tutte meets The
Tempest and all is not as it seems...
Sir Michael Tippett’s exuberant opera was
first seen at the Royal Opera House in 1970 and
its score was hailed then, as now, as refreshingly
new and full of colour and energy. In this new
production, designed by Jane and Louise Wilson,
the score will find its visual match!
The Wilsons are amongst the UK’s foremost
contemporary artists. Nominated for the Turner
Prize in 1999 and currently working on a major
piece of public art for Lincoln Square, New York,
their video art explores the power of the unconscious
mind - the psychological world of The Knot Garden. |
