The Gutter Press Theatre Company
performs this classic tale of redemption based
on the novel “The Playmaker” by Thomas
Keneally.
The story follows the first transportation of
convicts from Britain to Australia in 1787, and
their experiences in performing a production of
“The Recruiting Officer,” By George
Farquhar. The play explores the tensions between
the prisoners and officers, the power of theatre
as an art form and whether or not it has the ability
to change people.

company.
